about
In 2011 when I was no longer able to play in Abigail Williams, it was the first time I was not in a band since age 12. It was the first song I wrote for what I now call my solo project, Light Being. It was also the first song I wrote during recovery from an acute psychiatric trauma and subsequent hospitalization that I seldom speak of publicly. This track started with drums, acoustic guitar, and a turtle-shaped ocarina all tracked in Brookings, Oregon in 2013. Guitar and bass have been tracked over and over again through the years. in 2016 I dug it up the file and began to reconsider shelving it. The synth strings began to sound stale to me so I recruited Kakophonix to perform cello. My brother's wife Alexia Wotawa lent a soothing operatic vocal contrast to my shrieks. The lyrics are borrowed from a poem written for my family 3 generations ago, titled "The Rim Dwellers" and is about their summer cabin in the mountains that sits at the rim of the world.
